Title : Who Needs a Hygienist Anyway??
A guide to why you need your hygienist
Annie Lutterman
I’ve been cleaning teeth for 5 years right now as well as a question I often get can be “If I brush my teeth twice a day as well as floss every night like you say, then why do I have to show up here?” I understand why which might be a concern. What could a hygienist possibly do which you cannot do at home with your own toothbrush, toothpaste as well as floss? Well let’s just say which exact question puts a smile on my face.
There can be a lot we can do. Not only does a hygienist clean teeth- we care for your all around oral health. We do an oral cancer screening, check for decay not easily seen (or felt) within the mouth, check bone levels as well as gum health. Seeing a hygienist on a regular basis allows the patient to take preventative approach to oral needs rather than a reactive approach. Preventative measures include x-rays, oral cancer screening, cleaning as well as an exam through Dr. Zollinger.
A toothbrush does a great job cleaning the surface of your teeth. The floss cleans well between the teeth. When plaque as well as saliva calcify which becomes tartar build up. which’s which hard stuff we scrape at. which can be the tough stuff your brush as well as floss do not stand a chance against. Tartar build up must be mechanically removed. Gum disease can be also painless. Most adults who have gum disease did not know until told so by their hygienist. Gum disease can lead to tender gums as well as eventually tooth loss.
Maintaining a healthy mouth can be teamwork. If you do your part at home as well as see your hygienist regularly you can avoid serious dental problems. Plus, wouldn’t which be nice for your own peace of mind?? Stop in today!!
